"To make Sunnybrook Country Club a preferred destination for our members, their families, and our guests."
If you are looking for value, then no other club in Grand Rapids offers the combination of championship golf, family-oriented activities and top-rated facilities as Sunnybrook Country Club.
It all started at a meeting in the fall of 1957, when Grant MacEachron outlined what had been a dream of his for many years past. He described his plans for creating a golf course on the present site, and on a blustery fall day that year, out in the corn fields of the old Andre farm, laid the groundwork for the events that followed.
They retained Bruce Matthews, local golf course architect and consultant, to design the golf course and offer advice to the members of various committees, so that all the desirable features of a modern country club would be incorporated into the new venture: Sunnybrook Country Club. In 1990, Sunnybrook retained William Newcomb to redesign the golf course master plan. Work on the course is an ongoing endeavor.
The pioneers of Sunnybrook watched each blade of grass as it started growing during the fall of 1958. However, it was the early spring of 1959 before regular play commenced. The golf pro was Jim Unwin.
Sunnybrook has come a long way in the past 45 years.
Spring of 1993 we saw the completion of a new kitchen, dining room and pool facilities. The end of 1994 we honored our pro of 33 years, Jerry Berles, who is now retired. In the year 2000, Sunnybrook created a state of the art practice facility. The spring of 2002 saw the completion of our renovation of the clubhouse exterior and spacious new banquet facility.
We plan to continue our progress to ensure that good times are had by all during their tenure at Sunnybrook Country Club. |
